Maid in Manhattan

In the movie Maid in Manhattan; Marisa a hotel maid had through serendipity met Chris a politician...their different worlds made Marisa felt insecure in allowing anything to happen between them.
As much as she threaded cautiously...she hoped it might turn out to be a something good. She had her fears all up. Just when she thought things were getting better, then all came crumbling...she was fired from the hotel for breaking their ethics and her love was on the verge of been taking away from her by another rival.
As she finds her way home, she wept like a baby girl whose toy has been taken away from her. Only to get home and find her mother making her face the reality of living without a job...the bills that will come in every month...irrespective of her loss.
Right here, I could feel her pain, as I sat in my couch watching the movie...I turned my face to the ceiling and asked God...why is life so harsh?...her love has just been snatched from her hand...as she was trying to hold back...she lost her job in the process...what, how..can't life give her a break...just then I remembered an article by a former editor of the graphics newspaper, as reported by Albert Ocran in one of his presentations; the editor who had apparently lost his father and had joined a taxi...on reaching his destination...the taxi driver asks..."my money sir"...the editor looked perplexed...then he realized "life must go on"...
Marisa was in just the same shoes...she felt like why won't life give her a break...but the cruel reality is that life must go on.
Yes, your love might have just been taken away from you...you must have just lost a job, a loved one...or probably, your marriage...the cruel reality is that life must go on..life won't pause because of you. Your meter won't stop reading because of your predicament, your car won't stop consuming fuel, the children's fees will still stare are you...your exam won't run away...you still have to face life...it is in this that the real man inside you shows.

Devil Wears Prada

For what seems to be an umpteenth time...I saw the movie again...though I didn't stay through...but I remember every scene...as if I was the continuity guy during the production of the almost becoming antique Hollywood drama.

Each time I watch this movie, I see a different twist to the story. Miranda Priestly...a fashion mogul...whose aim was to run fashion Runway to the world top list, gets a new assistant, Andy, a fresh grad from Northwerstern University who seemed to be indifferent to the fashion world...her aim was to be a writer...she thought she could twirl her way through without being hooked to the fashion craze...but as I watch this drama unfold...I notice some inadvertent  actions by Andy...that had a cue in them.

"These stuffs"
Working for a fashion mogul is no different as working for a business guru...they all demand high level quality of service from their subordinates. This was the case for Andy... Whose indifferent attitude came to play when she voiced it out during a conversation with another assistant, Emily and  Miranda. When Miranda asked of her opinion to the choice of color to a dress Miranda was trying to select for a client...Andy retorted..."I'm not so good with these stuff"...
I exclaimed from where I was sitting on my couch...and said to myself "how could you reply your boss that way?...what do you think she'll think about you"
Miranda's reply was no different from my exclamatory remarks..."you call this...'these stuffs'..." The look on her face is enough to get you fired.
Andy was a novice to the industry...but being indifferent is not the best way to get around a career that doesn't make any meaning to you...after all she was working for someone most girls will die to work for.

Love or life
It's hard to choose between pleasing your lover from school and your boss. Andy's lover and school mates were seeking for attention...they thought their friend was becoming like those girls in the magazines...with no life....they thought they were helping her by getting her to quit working for Miranda... It seems Andy not only revered her boss...but was focused...and knew how to turn her ears off...during these period...she did what she could do best...but one must know that once you begin to rise ahead if your peers they may not find it comfortable...and might begin to attack you softly...Andy lost her lover...but she found something worth than that.

Meeting Miranda's twins
Andy had inadvertently won the heart of Miranda... Who secretly keep that to herself...she gives Andy the opportunity to bring her daily magazine to her house...this means the boss is bringing you closer... Andy who is oblivious of the plot...get mislead by Miranda's twins...to where she found Miranda arguing with her husband.
At times when we think we are worst person...someone is crazily admiring our work...and if we keep living in that oblivion...we might probably want to give up it even mess around with opportunities.
Miranda's admiration wasn't altered by this...she rather gave her an almost impossible task of getting the unpublished manuscript of Harry Porter for her twins in 24hrs...this is the part I love so much...I feel like working for a boss like this...knowing the end result.

Apparently, Andy had met Chris, a writer...at a fashion event...Andy's relationship with him help her to contact the publishers and get the copy to the kids at the train station...as they were travelling...this confirmed Miranda's trust.

Death to Paris
For being able to win Miranda's trust...Andy was given the opportunity to follow Miranda to Paris for the fashion show of the year...this is something that Emily would die for...Emily would tolerate and put up with all Miranda's queries just to get the opportunity to go to Paris...mostly for the clothes...which she thinks Andy does not deserve. Andy knew this was going to be a big blow to Emily as she had an accident and broke her leg...whilst running erands for Miranda...who had deliberately shifted most of the work on her.
When we think we are too smart...we end up deceiving ourselves...Emily thought she had it under control...but subtle Andy was inadvertently doing her job well...even though that wasn't what she wanted to be doing...yet she didn't put up with Miranda...instead she learnt to work with Miranda.

Paris to Passion
Andy got to Paris...she found love...and still kept impressing Miranda inadvertently...by saving Miranda from an ominous plan to abdicate her.
After she came back from Paris...Miranda thought she had found an ally...and began to advice Andy...only to realise that Andy just quitted working for her to follow her real passion.
Andy knew when to draw the line..

I asked myself...if I was in Andy's shoes...I don't think I would want to quit now that the boss that I'm trying to impress has finally acknowledged me...
But I think Andy made the right choice...following her passion.

At the end...I wish I had a boss like Miranda...who dont care about how I feel as much as how the work must be done.
One thing Miranda did which to me I think informed Andy's decision to leave was when she sacrificed Nigel...(Andy's tutor and mentor at Runway)...just to retain her position....if Miranda could do this to her arts director...it could happen to her(Andrea).

Though the movie was set in a fashion world...it's import can be applicable in any industry...
Miranda seen as the devil...in charge of a fashion mag ...the prada...who the cap fits let him wear it.
